Aiders vs Zendesk

Zendesk is licensed per agent seat, and its AI resolutions come from a capped annual allowance that does not roll over. Aiders is priced per store and settles the order itself.

Updated 1 August 2026

The short version

Zendesk is a general-purpose customer service platform. It is licensed per agent seat, and its AI resolutions come out of an annual allowance that is capped and does not roll over.

Aiders is a Shopify email agent, priced per store. It does not route every order question to a person. It answers from the live order and, where you allow it, settles with a refund, a credit or an order change. Per request type you decide: Aiders handles it, Aiders drafts it for your approval, or Aiders stops and alerts you. It answers them from the live order and, where you allow it, settles them with a refund, a credit or an order change.

What that means when the volume comes

A per-seat licence has one property worth naming plainly. It charges you for the people you hired because the tool did not finish the work. Volume rises, you add an agent, the licence follows the agent. The line that should shrink when automation starts working is the hardest line to shrink, because nobody un-hires a trained agent in the middle of Q4 to save a seat fee.

The annual AI allowance compounds it. You forecast resolutions twelve months ahead and buy them in advance. Support volume is not annual, it is seasonal. Buy for the peak and you pay for capacity that expires unused in February. Buy for the average and you run out during the exact week you needed it. Nothing carries over.

Aiders is per store. The price is the same whether four people watch the inbox or nobody does, and the same whether the agent handles ten conversations this month or a thousand inside your plan.

What Aiders does here

Zendesk is built to be industry-neutral. That neutrality is the gap:

  • Issues partial and full refunds itself through Shopify, into the original payment method.
  • Holds a return refund until the carrier confirms the parcel arrived, then refunds and emails.
  • Issues store credit into the Shopify store credit account, spendable at checkout with no code, or a real gift card.
  • Changes the shipping address on a live order and verifies it landed before telling the customer.
  • Swaps a variant by editing the real order, checked against live stock, with a payment link if the new item costs more.
  • Answers order status from live order and carrier data, kept current by carrier push events.
  • Enforces your refund ladder in code, with a cash ceiling above which the refund queues for your team, and the customer hears the same wording either way.
  • Detects a chargeback threat in the email, before the bank is called, and puts the customer's exact words in front of you with a recommended action.
  • Lets you rehearse any scenario in a sandbox that runs the same logic with every real action simulated.

Speed is the argument here. Sift's Q4 2025 Digital Trust Index found missing or late deliveries account for 17% of consumer disputes and delayed refunds another 18%. More than a third of disputes are caused by a merchant being slow rather than a customer being dishonest. A macro does not make a refund faster. Paying it does.

What Zendesk is good at

Zendesk is engineered for support as a department. SLA policies, skills-based routing, workforce management, multi-brand, granular admin roles, reporting your operations lead will actually use, and an app ecosystem that covers almost anything. It survives procurement and security review at large companies for good reason. If you run forty agents across several products, time zones and regulators, that machinery is the product and Aiders has none of it.

Who should pick which

Pick Zendesk if support is a department with a rota, SLAs to report on, and channels beyond email.

Pick Aiders if support is one Shopify inbox and the questions are about orders. If you are paying per seat for a three-person store because Zendesk was what you knew, that is the case where the licence buys you the least.

We also implement Shopify's mandatory privacy webhooks, so the compliance conversation is short.
